Afikpo North Local Government Area (LGA) of Ebonyi State is set to unveil a high-tech automobile diagnostic center in partnership with Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM), Nigeria’s leading indigenous automobile company.

The Chairman of the council, Engineer Timothy Nwachi, explained the rationale behind the initiative during an interactive session with journalists. He described the project as a strategic response to the demands of modern vehicle technology and Afikpo’s growing status.

“Technology is the backbone of modern society,” Nwachi said. “Afikpo, being the second-largest city in Ebonyi State and a major destination for visitors with modern vehicles, needs an advanced diagnostic facility to support local mechanics and service modern cars efficiently.”

According to him, the council entered into a partnership with Innoson to procure and install an electronic diagnostic machine that will help technicians accurately detect faults in vehicles. “We provided the land, commenced construction, and engaged with Innoson. As we speak, the structure is at an advanced stage, and the equipment is on its way. This project will serve both residents and visitors alike,” he added.

On the issue of healthcare, the Chairman commended Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for deploying healthcare professionals across general and primary health centers in the state, including those in Afikpo North.

Nwachi also highlighted steps taken by his administration to improve healthcare access in rural communities. “We discovered that the health center in Ugwegu was inaccessible due to poor road conditions. In response, we constructed a bridge, which has now been completed,” he said.

He noted that further work on the road would resume once the rainy season ends. He also announced the rehabilitation and repainting of a long-neglected health center in another community to create a more conducive environment for healthcare workers and patients.

“Our aim is to ensure that every health center is accessible, functional, and welcoming for anyone seeking medical help,” he emphasized.

Looking ahead, Nwachi reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to improving the quality of life for the people of Afikpo through targeted interventions in innovation, healthcare, and infrastructure.

He stressed the importance of balancing historical reverence with forward-looking policies, noting Afikpo’s significance in the regional and national context.

“For me, prioritizing the welfare of the good people of Afikpo North Local Government Area remains the top priority of my administration,” he stated.

He paid homage to Afikpo’s rich legacy, recalling the contributions of Dr. Akanu Ibiam, a native of Afikpo and the first Governor of the old Eastern Region.

“Dr. Ibiam’s historic visit to General Sani Abacha in Abuja played a crucial role in the creation of Ebonyi State. We honor that legacy even as we prepare our people for the future,” Nwachi concluded.
