Please tell us more about yourself.
I’m Sunday David Ugbor, generally known as Mc Dave, a native of Ekoli in Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. I was born and raised in the streets of Port Harcourt.
Can you take us through your educational background?
I began my kindergarten education at Port Harcourt Primary School, and from there, I moved on to Royal Excellence Academy, where I concluded my basic education. For my secondary school education, I attended Philip’s Group of Schools, Diobu. After secondary school, I got admission to the prestigious Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki, where I graduated with a Second Class Upper in Political Science. After the National Youth Service Corps, I moved to Lagos, where I acquired a Diploma in Presentation from the National Broadcast Academy, Ikeja. I look forward to pursuing a Master’s degree soon.
How did you discover your creative abilities as a content creator?
It was birthed right from the children’s department of my family church, the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Diobu Parish, where we were groomed as children to do presentations during special children’s events. I usually participated in Bible recitations, drama, and music presentations.
However, it was emboldened when I entered the university. I discovered that the introductory speeches I made before my testimony or music rendition sparked laughter, then I began to focus more on talking (comedy), and from there, I started getting gigs.
Have you ever had unpleasant experiences in your career?
Yeas. Everyone, at some point or the other, must have had one or two experiences, from going for events and not being paid as agreed or not even being paid at all, to demeaning comments on my posts. But more profound of these experiences was my kidnap in the wee hours of September 10, 2023, on my way back from an event. I was blindfolded, handcuffed, and chained for 14days. Up until this moment, I still battle post-traumatic stress disorder. I wish that night had never happened at all. I saw death staring me in the face, but I thank God I’m here to tell the story.
Aside from being a content creator, what other things do you do?
I am a talkpreneur, a certified radio presenter. I’ve worked in various media houses in Rivers and Delta states as a standard stand-up comedian. I am a brand publicity strategist, currently the publicity Strategist to Dynace Global and The Mayor of Housing, a renowned real estate firm. I also run a transportation company on the side.
Which of your jokes gained you much fame?
I came to the limelight when I picked a niche in content creation that marries my professional background as a political scientist and a radio presenter (political analysis).
How has being in the spotlight changed you?
It has taught me a lot about being patriotic, humane, and a rallying point for the downtrodden and younger generation.
What projects are you currently working on, and what do we expect?
I am working on my wedding, first and an international tour.
Where do we see you in the next two years?
You’ll see me doing my thing, inspiring the younger generation whilst advocating a better society.
Do you have any advice for up-and-coming comedians or the youth in general?
I can only advise them to stay out of crime, focus mainly on what they have a natural aptitude for, and consistently push their dreams because no one else will do it for them better than they can.
