The West African States of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger have announced their withdrawal from the International Criminal Court, ICC, saying they no longer recognise its jurisdiction. The three military-led countries accused the court of arbitrarily prosecuting war crimes and serving as an “instrument of neo-colonialist repression.” They underlined their aim to uphold the protection of human rights in line with their values. A new report on Monday revealed that ride hailing giant Uber contributed an estimated N34 billion to Nigeria’s economy in 2023. The findings of the Uber Nigeria Economic Impact Report, which was conducted by Public First, was inaugurated at the recent Lagos Road Mobility Summit. The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, Ebonyi chapter, said it is committed to continuing the struggle for workers’ welfare needs. Chidi Igboji, Ebonyi TUC Chairman, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Abakaliki that they were not silent but focused on protecting the rights of workers. The Mayor of Urhoboland and former militant leader, Eshanekpe Israel, also known as Akpodoro, has appealed to the Federal Government to increase the value of the pipeline surveillance contract awarded to Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL). The national secretary of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Ogini Olaposi, states that plans to join the APC are being pursued by Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and his Kwankwasiyya Movement, not the party itself.
