Northern states in the country have begun voter mobilisation as southern states continue to lead online pre-registration in the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration exercise. Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has warned that Nigeria’s debt has crossed the legal threshold, threatening fiscal sustainability. At the WAAPAC conference in Abuja, Abbas revealed that Nigeria’s public debt hit N149.39 trillion (US$97bn) in the first quarter of 2025, up from N121.7 trillion the previous year.
