The Abia State Police Command has successfully rescued three kidnapped victims and apprehended suspects linked to the crime, recovering N2 million in ransom money and other evidence during a tactical operation.
The rescued victims, identified as Onyedikachi Peter Onyegesi from Akpou, Isuochi, Abia State, and Ifeanyi Nnabuife and Amarachi Nwaebubu, both from Anambra State, were freed following a kidnapping incident reported at Afojide Market, Isuochi.
According to a statement by DSP Maureen Chinaka, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, operatives from the Intelligence Response Unit, in collaboration with other tactical teams, acted on credible intelligence to execute the rescue on July 12, 2025, at approximately 5:30 p.m.
During the operation, police recovered a red Lexus 350 Jeep, N2 million in cash—believed to be part of the ransom payment—three mobile phones, and two leg chain shackles used to restrain the victims.
“Some kidnappers connected with this heinous crime have been apprehended and are currently undergoing interrogation,” DSP Chinaka stated, emphasizing the Command’s commitment to combating crime in the state.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, reiterated the Command’s dedication to ensuring the safety and security of Abia residents, vowing to continue efforts to make the state free from criminal activities.
Investigations are ongoing to bring all perpetrators to justice, and the police urge the public to report suspicious activities to aid their efforts.
